Boothbay HarborThe thick musk smell of the bowling lanes,
seeping out past brown paint walls,
overpowers all others, makes one reel and choke,
sends them fleeting just next door.
The tiny window set in yellow,
squares of fudge laid out for sale,
rocky road, peanut butter, wintergreen,
pale next to the chocolate bliss,
and the taffy puller, going 'round,
sweeps you in through the door.
Saltwater perfection, pure and fresh,
watermelon, peanut butter, grape and lime,
chocolate fudge and lemon taffy,
it just might last you through the day.
Continue on, the ground transforms,
gray cement to tan slats of wood.
Ocean air rolling past your skin,
tinted with salt and seaweed and something more.
A painted sign will pull you in,
for more chocolate bliss in frozen form,
chocolate cream and chocolate chips,
piled high with gummi bears.
More painted signs, more stores to look at,
Wale Watch, Seagulls, a Smiling Cow,
out from Gimbel's, back on a road,
in at Enchantments, the old red barn,
great chimes ringing, ince
LegendFrom deepest pits
one born of silver
to set change in motion
amidst blackened skies.
Light's great defender
cast from the heavens
calls to the chaos.
SpingWhere once-proud cities reached high air
rubble now is all that;s there
silver stones turned black with age
placed there by the very sage
who, through darkness, brought the light
and rallied the people for the fight.
But darkness now is all one sees
for light, struck down, fell to its knees.
The passing time of countless years
the dying of the people's fears
forgotten armor turned to rust
joining with the planet's dust
dim sun comes and off it glints
a mountainous land, lifeless since.
White light ignites the clouded skies
a dragon white out from it flies
the planet's patron, from banishment came
bearing with him white-hot rain
with each drop landfall makes
the land gives out tremendous quakes.
Signs of life can now be seen
brittle grass now turned to green
trees, blackened, twisted things
bloom in full as the planet sings
crystal water begins to flow
the brilliant red of cred blossoms show.
The rain has stopped, the sky shows blue
the land returned to what is true.
The Planet's SongAs you step on the gentle glow
the magic, it will start to flow
your feet are lifted from the mound
and then yanked back to different ground
that one quick second in between
it feels as though you could lean
against the cosmos, in all its might
and command the greatest light.
The return to solid turf
can leave you standing on foreign earth
at first you might find some mistake
some strange wrongness you cannot shake
but there is o need to fret
for the planet, it has let
you to land right on its face
and it starts its gentle bass.
The sound will rise up to your ear
a harmony so sweet to hear
gentle whispers, high and low
sending you the entire show
and ancient land, and ancient race
the people who'd been laid to waste
their hope and dreams, their loves and fears
welling in you as white-hot tears.
And just as suddenly it's gone
the forgotten planet's lonely song.
mechanici want to kiss every aching wound you have,
bandage your heart every time it bleeds,
and patch up your mind over and over
because not a single tear deserves to fall
from your brandy-drenched eyes
but this dripping heart of mine can only feel
and the healing honey words it flames get caught
in the back of my throat and on the roof of my mouth
so i only have these passionate guttural cries
to tell you that i care all too much
and in order to fix you up again,
i would need to tear myself to tatters
and trade all of my working parts
for your leftover, fading pieces
but i just haven’t figured out how.
